Some of Jesus' parting words in what some call His Great Commission were "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations...." This is the basis of 5-14's mission quest to be involved in reaching out to others in our own sphere and across the globe.

Short-term mission trips are one way that students, mid-career and retired folks, really anyone, can help in fulfilling the Great Commission. Not only does it produce life-changing results for people on the receiving end of these outreaches, that is those finding new life in Christ, but it often helps the believer going on the mission grow in his/her faith as that person watches the Lord provide needed funds, change lives, and uses him/her to mentor others. It often knits the heart of the believer to that particular people group that he/she has served, as well as provides new Christian friendships. Long-term work in locations can be advanced in excellent ways as well.
